Our new series focuses on the character, or most importantly, on the character's journey. How the human heart changes is the story! An actor who is the same in the beginning, middle and end of the movie hasn't told the story. The only way to find it is to bring the character to life in relationship to the other characters in the film, play, or series.
Many actors get stuck on the surface of the script (plot), and that results in what we call "bubble acting". Bubble acting is an actor who hasn't found the character yet! He or she is more concerned about playing generalized emotions, rather than connecting to the other characters.
So remember, you're not a piece of paper! You can't use the script as an instruction manual. The script is a map to the story, and it's your job to bring that story to the next level.
Got an acting question on technique, exercises, warm-ups, business, anything?!
Let us know here! We'd be glad to share.
